What will life in East New York be like in the year 2030? Students from a class being offered by the Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP) and sponsored by the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) were in the process of answering that question last week when they visited the new Meadow- Wood apartment complex at 122-05 Flatlands Avenue to talk with officials from MeadowWood’s real estate agents, Fillmore Real Estate.
Fillmore’s Vice President Jean Paul Ho, along with the large complex’s assistant manager Hayden Stephen, told the students of their visions for the future not only of MeadowWood, but of the nearby Spring Creek Houses neighborhoods.
According to CUP Program Manager Valeria Mogilevich, the students are documenting the social and political infrastructure of various parts of the city “to learn how to creatively communicate their ideas through design.”
She said the students “go beyond standard classroom learning and engage in rigorous field research.” Part of their curriculum is to visit real sites and interview decision-makers, such as Ho and Stephens.
Currently, the program is being offered after hours at Wingate High School.
